With Tanja Thorjussen, Thale Fastvold and Katarina Skår Lisa
Ceavccageađge/ Mortensnes 2018

A Performance – A Conversation with Stone
The performance Conversation with Stone took place at the cultural heritage site Ceavccageađge/ Transteinen at Mortensnes in Unjarga/ Nesseby Municipality in Sapmi /NO. With artists Tanja Thorjussen, Katarina Skår Lisa and Thale Fastvold spring-winter 2018.
In connection with Tanja Thorjussen’s solo exhibition Sieidi – Transteinen and Tupilaq which was on display at Vadsø Kunstforening in 2018, Thorjussen invited audience to a performance on Saturday, April 14. Thorjussen first visited Transteinen in 1994, and has since visited it on several occasions, including during her studio stay at the guest studio in Vadsø 2015.
She says: “The Transteinen is mysterious and inspiring and I have long wanted to create a work about and with it, and with the exhibition at Vadsø Kunstforening and the performance, this dream has come true.”
Thorjussen invited dance and performance artist Katarina Skår Lisa to create a performative work, a conversation with stone. Skår Lisa has herself visited Transteinen on several occasions and has family in Varanger. In collaboration with architect and visual artist Oscar Eriksson Furunes, they created the performative clothing that took part in the performance. Amongst other stone shoes made by Eriksson Furunes and a head sculpture.
The experience became unique in the setting of Varanger’s beautiful and deep pre- historic Sea Sami landscape and its relations. It became a ritual performance for both the past, the future and the here and the now, a conversation with stone.

Words from Tanja Thorjussen
“In conjunction with my exhibition at Vadsø Kunstforening 7-22 april 2018, where I am investigating the spiritual in art with my drawings about the sacred rocks Ceavccageađge / Transteinen and Áhkánjárstábba / Stalloen in Finnmark, I invited Katarina Skår Lisa to collaborate on creating a performance at Transteinen and Thale Fastvold to make a brew with herbs from Finnmark and Greece to be served to the public and I presented, and read from, my artist book Crepuscular.
Since the spring snow was deep and porous we had to carefully ski down to the Transteinen to see the performance.”
